VIDEO | MS Dhoni laughs at Peter Handscomb’s lack of keeping skills after run-out reprieve

In the epilogue of his colossal career, MS Dhoni brought a different sense to his game and his wicket-keeping ability is the highlight of it. When he made an odd judgemental error in running between wickets, Peter Handscomb messed it up which made MS Dhoni laugh at the Aussie keeper.

Harsha Bhogle pulled off the statistics in the air that it was back in October 2011 that MS Dhoni was run out in a T20I game and that pretty much sums everything up. He is supremely athletic while running between the wickets and his calculation of a run helped Virat Kohli steal so many runs that would otherwise not have been possible.

However, even the master fails to do their regular work at times and it was MS Dhoni’s turn to make the first mistake. On the fourth ball of the 11th over, Pat Cummins bowled a full and outside off delivery to which Dhoni drove off behind point which could easily have been a couple. Dhoni tried his best and charged back a second, but failed to continue the same momentum.

In doing so, the former Indian skipper was slow off the blocks and by the Jhye Richardson threw the ball back from the deep, Dhoni had not even covered half of the ground. It was going to be a comfortable run-out for Australia, but Peter Handscomb, who was not even a regular wicket-keeper, messed it up and his anticipation was so wrong that the ball was a lot wider than his expected length.

The ball invariably went past him and MS Dhoni reached safely to deny Australia a wicket. However, he couldn’t control himself and smiled slowly, looking at the way Handscomb tried to collect the ball - probably thinking how low the wicket-keeping standard in world cricket has been.
