VIDEO | MS Dhoni recreates “full-stretch” gymnast move to save himself from getting stumped
We all know that MS Dhoni had only played football and cricket in school, but one has all the reasons to seriously doubt the authenticity of it. His full stretch move had the grace of a gymnast as he moved his legs brilliantly to save himself from a sure stumping to leave Peter Handscomb stunned.
There is a folklore running around in the veins of MS Dhoni fans that when he was a child he used to drink eight litres of milk everyday. Well, if that is true or not is left for the man himself to answer, but the power in his legs can definitely give any young cricketers a run for their money. He demonstrated that beautifully with a gymnast move that would make Mitch Gaylord proud.
On the second ball of the 12th over, Zampa bowled a wide delivery to which Dhoni wanted to advance down the track but failed to have any connection. Dhoni was way out of the crease that he literally had no time to move back and in the process, wicket-keeper Peter Handscomb saw a chance to dislodge the bails.
It seemed like Dhoni was waiting for the last moment to showcase his genius as he made a full stretch, which Star Sports later confirmed that was 2.14 meters, to take his back foot inside the crease. Umpires went upstairs to check the dismissal and the replay was sufficient to leave many people stunned. Dhoni had managed to take it behind the line just before Handscomb could take that down and the third umpire called it a not-out.
