The Committee of Administrators (CoA) has announced that the IPL 2019 is set to begin on March 23 in various venues across India. Based on the preliminary discussions with the central and state authorities, it was decided that the T20 tournament will not go out of the country this time.

Due to the general elections in the country in 2019, it was speculated that the tournament would move out of the country as was the case in 2009 and 2014. However, BCCI today confirmed that the 12th edition of the world's most popular and competitive T20 tournament will be scheduled to be played in India.

"Based on the preliminary discussions with the appropriate central and state agencies/authorities, it was decided that the 12th edition of the world's most popular and competitive T20 tournament will be scheduled to be played in India," the BCCI said in a release.

"It is proposed that the VIVO IPL 2019 will commence on March 23, 2019. The detailed schedule will be finalised in consultation with the appropriate authorities. The COA will then have detailed discussion with all the Stakeholders before releasing the VIVO IPL 2019 Schedule," the release added.

However, Cricbuzz reported that the tournament may not be played on the usual home-away basis, and will take place in a 'caravan format' after the election dates are announced.
