CIC to conduct thorough investigation after Mumbai’s disastrous Ranji Trophy outing
The Cricket Improvement Committee of Mumbai began their inquiry into what went wrong during Mumbai cricket team’s rather forgettable outing the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. Mumbai finished in 11th spot in Elite Group A and B as they won just one match from the eight games they played.
The much revered and respected Mumbai cricket team slumped to a rather disappointing level in the recent Ranji Trophy tournament as they missed a few of their star players in crucial games across the season. Former Indian pacer Karsan Ghavri on Friday quit the Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) as reports emerged that a lengthy inquiry was conducted by the committee to asses Mumbai’s disastrous campaign.
"I've resigned because of personal reasons. I've nothing against the MCA or against the committee members. I've whatsapped my resignation to the MCA this morning, and will be sending a formal letter on Monday or Tuesday," Ghavri told Cricbuzz.
In Ghavri's absence, the CIC meeting, on Friday, was chaired by ex-India pacer Raju Kulkarni. Apart from Kulkarni, the other members of the CIC who were present for the meeting were Kiran Mokashi, Amol Muzumdar and Sahil Kukreja. Shocked by Mumbai’s dismal performance which saw them win just one match from the eight games played, the CIC held a series of lengthy meetings with the team's selectors, senior players and the support staff, which began at 3.30 pm and ended at 9 pm. The six-hour ordeal commenced with the committee having a word with Mumbai senior selectors, which was led by former India pacer Ajit Agarkar.
The committee then went on to meet senior players Dhawal Kulkarni and Siddhesh Lad, who both captained the team in the Ranji this time. They also spoke to the likes of Aditya Tare, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav and Akhil Herwadkar, to take their feedback on what went wrong this season. Mumbai coach Vinayak Samant along with his support staff were also interviewed by the CIC towards the end of the inquest.
