India vs Australia | Will try and take as many wickets as I can, reveals Khaleel Ahmed
Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed revealed that he will try his best to take as many wickets for India as possible after he was selected for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia. Khaleel was involved in the T20I series against the Aussies last year which India drew 1-1.
As India gear up to face Australia in the series opener on Saturday, left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed backed himself to do well in the upcoming games on Australian soil. The young fast bowler was pivotal in India’s Asia Cup triumph last year as India were crowned champions under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.
Ahmed was involved in the ODI and T20I series win against West Indies late last year as well. The lad from Tonk in Rajasthan has impressed in the last year and has made himself a permanent player in Virat Kohli’s limited-overs team. Now, Khaleel’s next assignment is the One-Day International against the Aussies. In a recent interview with TOI, Khaleel revealed that he was raring to go against Aaron Finch & Co. in the coming weeks as India will look to register another emphatic win on Australian soil.
"T20Is (against Australia) was a great experience. It was my maiden tour of Australia. Playing T20s was a big experience for me. It’s time for ODIs now. All I want to say is – I am ready. I will try to take as many wickets as I can for my team in ODIs.
"We have got a great captain in Virat Kohli. He is motivating. We have already won the Test series in Australia. It was our maiden one and I am sure we will win many more in the future. I am sure we will win the ODI series as well. It will be the cherry on the cake,” Khaleel told Timesofindia.com in an exclusive interview.
In the T20I series against Australia last year, Ahmed racked up three wickets in two games as he dismissed Australian cricketer D’arcy Short twice in the series. The 21-year old also thanked Ravi Shastri for showing faith in him ever since the start.
"I observed each Australian batsman and watched their videos. Australian conditions are very different. They have bouncy and fast tracks. You need to bowl full deliveries on these pitches. It requires a lot of effort. I got to learn a lot.
"Shastri sir was a great cricketer and he shares his valuable knowledge with me. After the T20I series, Shastri sir came to me and said ‘Gear up for the ODI series. Keep yourself fit and train hard’. I am motivated and want to win this series for my team,” Ahmed added.
