ICC World Cup 2019 | MS Dhoni slams critics stating he hasn't planned retirement yet
Under-fire MS Dhoni claimed that he has no idea when he will retire from international cricket but added that some people would like him to hang up his boots before the next World Cup match itself. The former India captain has scored scored 223 runs in 7 innings at a strike rate of 93 in England.
MS Dhoni has come under severe criticism for his lacklustre batting in the lower order, especially after the match against England that India lost by 32 runs. The former India skipper then went on to score a decent knock against Bangladesh in the next outing but continued drawing flak for his strike rate of 93 in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 being played in England & Wales.
Recently, rumours began to float around that Dhoni was set to hang up his boots post the World Cup due to pressure from the Indian cricket body and other internal issues. However, the World Cup winning captain has put all the rumors to rest he said that he himself has no idea when he intends to retire but some people want him to hang up his boots before the next World Cup match itself.
"I am not sure when I am retiring but few people want me to retire before tomorrow's match," Dhoni was quoted as saying by ABP news’ Rajnish Ahuja.
Prior to this, PTI had also reported about Dhoni’s impending retirement as they said that BCCI officials saw the culmination of the World Cup as a fitting goodbye to the long-serving Indian wicket-keeper.
"If India qualifies for the finals and go on to win the World Cup on July 14 at the Lord's, it would be the ideal setting for a fitting farewell to one of the legends of Indian cricket. However, with India qualifying for the semi-finals at the World Cup here, neither the team management nor the BCCI wants to talk about sensitive issue," the PTI report stated.
