ICC World Cup 2019 | BCCI lodge official complaint with ICC against aerial banners

Team India’s final group stage match at the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 ended on a positive note as Virat Kohli & Co. won by a seven-wicket margin on Saturday. However, the match was marred with some negative moments as two planes were spotted flying with political messages over Headingley Stadium during the game in Leeds on Saturday.

In what is considered to be a massive security breach, two planes flew over the venue in Leeds during the match with banners pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir. The banners held claims of genocide in the J&K region and demanded justice.

While the BCCI has already registered a complaint against the incident, the ICC had already spoken out against the act

"We are incredibly disappointed this has happened again. We do not condone any sort of political messages at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Throughout the tournament we have worked with local police forces around the country to prevent this type of protest occurring,” the ICC said in its statement.

Earlier, during a World Cup clash between Pakistan and Afghanistan, a plane was spotted over the venue with a 'Justice for Balochistan' banner attached to it.  Reports stated that the plane had no permission to fly and that ICC had asked local police officials and air traffic controller to investigate the matter. 'Justice for Balochistan' banners had also been placed right outside the stadium, infuriating Pakistani fans who tore the posters.
