Sanjay Bangar heaped praise on Indian opener Rohit Sharma who has scored a record-breaking five centuries at the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 in England & Wales. The 32-year old batsman tops the run-getters chart at the WC having amassed a total of 647 runs from eight matches thus far.

If Rohit Sharma’s performance at the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 has proved anything, it is that the India opener is the word consistency personified. The 32-year-old Indian vice-captain has led by example in England having registered a record-breaking five centuries at the end of the group stage of the global showpiece.

Sanjay Bangar heaped praise on the veteran Indian batsman who recently scored 103 against Sri Lanka in India’s seven-wicket victory at Headingley. Sharma is currently the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 647 runs ahead of Australia’s David Warner.

“What is remarkable is the consistency he (Sharma) has shown in this tournament because it’s very easy for any batter to rest on past laurels. But he has come out in each and every innings and started in the same fashion.

“The way he has helped his partner at the other end, whether it was in the Australia game where he helped Shikhar (Dhawan) out of a difficult phase ... now he is helping KL Rahul out in the middle and here he also flowered. So, that is all teamwork and I’m really glad that he is doing all this for the team on a consistent basis,” Bangar was quoted as saying PTI sources.

Sanjay Bangar, who has also coached IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab, added that the Indian team’s main concern will be to focus on their own game, rather than worrying about what the opposition will do as they face World Cup 2015 runner-ups New Zealand.

“We are just keen to get on and play the semi-final as soon as possible. We need to keep doing the things we are doing at the moment. We have always maintained that we are looking at our internal parameters. If we are hitting our internal indicators, then we will be playing at our best and that is what we aspire to do,” Bangar added.
