The final of the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League has been scheduled to be held in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. However with the General elections also happening almost at the same time as the tournament, BCCI has kept Vizag as a backup venue in case a change of venue is required.

Though BCCI has decided to withhold the details of the knockout stages while releasing the date and time of the league fixtures on Tuesday, Cricinfo has reported that Chennai, home of Defending Champions Chennai Super Kings, could be the venue for the final, which has been scheduled to be on May 12.

Though BCCI had released the knockout dates accidentally that showed likely dates for the Qualifier 1, Eliminator, and Qualifier 2 as May 7, May 8, and May 10 respectively, they quickly had to delete the tweet in what is understood to undergo change as and when required.

The Central Election Commission has imposed certain restrictions concerning where the matches would be played owing to the seven phases of Lok Sabha elections having simultaneously, which has kept the BCCI cautious about the knockout dates.

The general election has been scheduled to be held dates for April 9 to May 23, which has led the BCCI to keep Vizag as a backup venue for the final as well.
