IPL 2019 | Varun Chakravarthy ruled out of remainder of tournament
Varun Chakravarty has been ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League after he injured himself prior to Kings XI Punjab’s encounter against Chennai Super Kings on April 6. The mystery spinner had only played one game against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 27 prior to this.
Kings XI Punjab’s Varun Chakravarthy had stirred a storm after he was picked up for Rs. 8.4 crores at the auction. Unfortunately, the debutant was taken to the cleaners as he returned with figures of 35 for one in three overs in his lone game against Kolkata Knight Riders. The mystery spinner, who has number of variations in his arsenal, had fractured his finger prior to his side’s game against Chennai Super Kings and has failed to recover in time.
“While the team were hopeful that Chakravarthy would return for the final few games of the campaign, his recovery, however, hasn’t been sufficient. The 27-year-old will return home as a result. KXIP wishes him a speedy recovery and the very best for the rest of the year,” the franchise said in a press release, reported India Today.
Chakravarthy was an architect by profession but his love for cricket prompted him to take it up. He used to be a fast bowler but had taken to spin after an injury in club cricket.
The Kings are now at a precarious position on the points table with just five wins in 12 games. Even a win, against Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings on May 3 and May 5 respectively, may not guarantee them a spot in the playoffs.
