In cricket’s quest to bring in more family audience and help cricket penetrate untapped geographies, Euro T20 Slam was launched in Dublin on April 30 by Wasim Akram and Dileep Vengsarkar. The six-team league's biggest USP is that it will be played across three countries - Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands, which will be the first of its kind. Six cities have been awarded a franchise - Dublin Chiefs, Belfast Titans, Amsterdam Kings, Rotterdam Rhinos, Glasgow Giants and Edinburgh Rocks.

Earlier, the league had already announced three icon players - Shane Watson, Brendon McCullum and Rashid Khan, and three marquee players Chris Lynn, Babar Azam and Luke Ronchi during the launch event and now, has joined as an icon player. Alongside the former Pakistan skipper, South African T-20 team’s vice-captain JP Duminy and his country mate Imran Tahir will be among the six marquee players.

After signing for the deal, Afridi said, “I have enjoyed my early days in cricket playing in Leicestershire, Derbyshire, and Kent. I am expecting a similar kind of surfaces and weather in Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands. It is the part of the world where we won our only World T20 title. I am really excited to go out there and entertain the fans.”

The tournament will be commence on August 30 and conclude its result on September 22 with a total of 33 matches between these six sides. Each franchise is made up of a minimum of nine domestic players and a maximum of seven overseas players, with each XI fielding a maximum up to five overseas players.
