ICC World Cup 2019 | Eoin Morgan taken to hospital for X-ray after suffering an injury in training
England skipper Eoin Morgan was taken to hospital for an X-ray after his left index finger suffered a blow during a regular training session. The in-form batsman along with 13 others was preparing for the warm-up game against Australia and is presently waiting to hear the results of the scan.
The England and Wales Cricket Board has released a short statement notifying of a potential injury faced by their captain Eoin Morgan. The incident took place at the Ageas Bowl in Hampshire during a catching session ahead of a World Cup warm-up game against Australia on Friday. Morgan injured his left index finger while taking slip catches from a bowling machine. He has undergone X-ray scans as a precautionary measure and the extent of the injury will only be known once the results are out.
“Eoin Morgan took a knock to his left index finger fielding this morning. He is going to hospital after practice for a precautionary X-ray,” the statement read.
With only Joe Root not present among the 15-member squad, the bad news has come at an unfortunate time not only for Morgan personally but also for the team who were reliant on the Ireland born batsman to take them all the way after being tipped to be the favourites.
The whole nation would be hoping it is nothing more than just a temporary knock and the talismanic batsman would recover in time for their first match against South Africa on May 30. Morgan has also been their man in form and a lot of England's success depends on him.
