ICC World Cup 2019 | I am not at all worried about the flat tracks in England, says Yuzvendra Chahal

Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal said that he is used to bowling on batting-friendly pitches, and that the opposition would be under just as much pressure as him. He went on to deny being affected by the home series defeat against Australia, dismissing it as a part and parcel of the game.

No bowler has been able to escape from addressing the worries that surround the tournament when it comes to the playing conditions, as the players and experts have predicted England’s pitches to be batting paradise and have warned the bowlers of possibly being the victims of a slog fest.

However, Chahal remained unfazed, being an integral part of the RCB team whose home ground is also batsmen-centric, and said that the conditions would be the same for everyone and hence no one team has an edge over others.

"I am not at all worried about the flat tracks in England as we are used playing ODI cricket on flat tracks. And please don't forget that I myself play a lot of matches every year at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, which is one of the best batting tracks,” he told Times of India.

"And also when we are talking about flat tracks, if as a bowler I am under pressure even the opposition bowlers will be under equal amount of pressure when we would be batting,” he articulately explained.

Even though he had an impressive IPL stacking up 18 wickets, he had a pretty disappointing series against Australia which saw India bottle a lead to lose the series 3-2. This led to his partnership with Kuldeep Yadav being broken with Jadeja being favoured over Chahal.

“I don't think we need to worry too much about the Australia series. We have played enough matches against them. Obviously, you can't win every game that you play. The manner in which Australian batsmen played us, they deserved to win. We should laud their effort and try to do better when we face them next time,” Chahal remarked.

Ever since the two started bowling together, Kuldeep Yadav and Chahal’s duo has gone on to earn the reputation as one of the most lethal in the world. The pair has taken 75 scalps in the 18 ODIs in which they have played without a third spinner since 2017, with a strike rate of 26, the best for any duo of Indian bowlers since 2017. However, the statistics for the last 6 months are less than impressive to say the least.

“I don't see anything different in the past six months when either me or Kuldeep played in the XI. I think most of the times when we both played. It's all about the team combination and what exactly is required in specific conditions," Chahal reassured PTI.

He will be a top contender for a playing XI spot considering England’s dry pitches and warm climate will provide a good bit of turn for the spinners, as India commence their World Cup campaign in 12 days.
