BBL 2019-20 | Hobart Hurricanes sign David Miller to boost middle-order
David Miller will be playing for Hobart Hurricanes in the 2019-20 edition of the Big Bash League as the franchise signed him in order to boost the middle-order. Miller is expected to add much-needed experience and step up when the likes of D'Arcy Short and Matthew Wade will be picked for Australia.
The 30-year-old is expected to solidify the middle-order of the Hurricanes as he has the experience of 294 T20s having played in different parts of the world. He is the second overseas signing for the Hurricanes after Qais Ahmed of Afghanistan. The likes of D’Arcy Short, matthew Wade and Ben McDermott will possibly be picked for the Australian national team and thus may not be available for the entirety of the Big Bash League. Thus Miller is expected to step up as he will be available for all 14 home and away games.
Miller has had fond memories of the Hobart ground as he had smashed 139 of just 108 balls for South Africa against Australia in 2018 which helped them win the game.
"It's very exciting to welcome a player of David's calibre to the Hurricanes. We've built a reputation as a destination club amongst internationals, and we are confident David's hard-hitting batting will give our members and fans great entertainment, and possibly a few opportunities to catch a six!," Cricket Tasmania CEO Nick Cummins told Cricbuzz.
"We expect to lose some batting experience throughout the season, so David will provide valuable runs in our drive to our third successive finals campaign," he concluded.
The Hurricanes will begin their campaign on December 20 against the Sydney Sixers in Alice Springs.
