Chris Silverwood named England's coach across all formats

After months and months of speculations, the England Cricket Board (ECB) have named Chris Silverwood as their new head coach across all formats. After Alec Stewart pulling out of the race and Gary Kirsten coming up with an "underwhelming" presentation, the ECB have gone ahead and appointed Silverwood, who is also incidentally the bowling coach of the team. 

An ECB selection panel comprising Director of Men's Cricket Ashley Giles, Chief Executive Officer Tom Harrison and Head of Coach Development John Neal unanimously agreed that Silverwood was the best choice for the job after the former cricketer impressed the panel in the interview. 

"We are delighted to confirm Chris as England men's head coach. We have gone through a thorough process and looked at all the options that were available to us. Chris was the standout candidate," Giles was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

"I believe he is what we need to take our international teams forward. He is somebody we know well, but it is his intimate understanding of our structures and systems and his close relationships with Test captain Joe Root and white-ball captain Eoin Morgan that will help us develop our plans for the next few years," Giles added.

From 1996 to 2002, Silverwood represented England in six Tests and seven ODIs. The new coach's first assignment will be England's winter tour of New Zealand, which will include two Tests and five T20Is.
