IND vs SA | Pacers have been exceptional for India over last two years, says Bharat Arun
India's bowling coach Bharat Arun has stated that Indian pacers have done exceptionally well in the last two years, helping India become a formidable force in Test cricket. He has also added that the wicket had become placid apart from a few wears and tears when South African lower-order batted.
For the Indian cricket fans, the pace revolution has been a story worth celebrating for more reasons than one. Not only has it given the Indians the respect they richly deserved away from home, even in the spin-friendly home conditions, but they have also mastered the complex art of reverse swing to make a bonafide CV of their own.
The way Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami took the ball in with their reverse swing on Day 3 of the second Test in Pune, of course, has made the man behind the revolution lot proud. Bharat Arun, generally a person not fond of giving away cliches, lauded his pacers in no uncertain words.
"I think they (pacers) have been exceptional over the last two years. They have risen up to the occasion and done a very good job. Each one's strengths are different; Umesh is good with a new ball and Shami is good with both (Old and new)," Arun told Star Sports yesterday.
After the top-order failed to put up a fight, the tail wagged to such an extent that it became highly frustrating for the Indian team. Vernon Philander and Keshav Maharaj batted with purpose and took the team to 275 in the first innings despite they were reduced to 53/5. Arun blamed it on the placid nature of the wicket at that time.
"The wicket has been pretty placid and their tail batted well yesterday. There is some wear and tear. Depending on what kind of rough, we decide about spinners choosing ends," the bowling coach added.
