After being banned for two years by the ICC, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hassan has also stepped down from the World Cricket Committee of the MCC. Mike Gatting, Chairman of the World Cricket committee, said that Shakib had contributed greatly and believes it was the right decision on his part.

The No. 1 ODI all-rounder Shakib Al Hassan has been banned for two years, one of it suspended, by the ICC as he failed to report multiple corrupt approaches to the Anti-Corruption Unit of the global body. The suspension rules Shakib out of the upcoming India tour, IPL and also the T20 World Cup next year, making things really tough for his nation.

Following ICC’s ruling, Shakib has stepped down from the World Cricket Committee of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). The club, the custodians of the game’s laws, announced the same in a recent press release.

”...Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) can today confirm that Al Hasan has stepped down from his involvement with the MCC World Cricket committee,” the club stated in a press release.

The MCC World Cricket committee is a body of current and former international cricketers and umpires from across the globe and meets twice a year to discuss the prevalent issues in the sport. Shakib joined the MCC World Cricket committee in October 2017 and attended meetings in both Sydney and Bengaluru.

“We are sorry to lose Shakib from the committee, where he has made a great contribution over the last couple of years. As guardians of the Spirit of Cricket, we support his resignation and believe this was the right decision,” Sportstar quoted Mike Gatting, Chairman of the World Cricket committee, saying so.

Shakib, who has been charged with breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, accepted it and therefore does not have the right to appeal against the punishment, which could very well have been as much as five years. The detailed judgement released by the ICC states that he was approached, three times, to share strategic deals of the team like team composition and game plan by suspected Indian bookie Deepak Aggarwal.
