Few players in world cricket have achieved as much as Brian Lara in their careers and even fewer have done it in the elegant way that the great West Indian was so renowned for. Having treated his fans to masterful stroke hitting throughout his glorious playing days, the 50-year-old showed he still hasn’t lost the charm with his bat.

Representing the Bravo XI in a T20 match as a part of The Selector Fan Cup in Port of Spain’s Queen’s Park Oval Stadium on Sunday, the legendary figure walked out to bat at number three. His team contained homegrown legends such as Sunil Narine, Lendl Simmons, and Dwayne Bravo himself but faced a tough challenge against Pollard’s XI that had in it Denesh Ramdin, Jimmy Neesham and Seekugge Prasanna among others.

While the format is known for batsmen frequently clearing the boundaries, Lara managed to awe the fans in his own elegant way. Batting against an off-spinner, he waited for the ball until the last moment before delicately opening the face of his bat and guide the ball towards the third man boundary. It certainly revived a whole lot of nostalgia for the fans for it is unlikely that cricket has ever seen a player play the late cut with such grace and poise. He ultimately got out after having scored 12 runs.
