IND vs SA | We will make sure that we are prepared for the worst, says Quinton de Kock
Quinton de Kock, who will be leading South Africa in the three-match T20I series against India, has stated that his side will be preparing for the worst in their upcoming tour of India. However, he expects the wickets for the T20Is to be good, pointing at the nature of pitches prepared in the IPL.
South Africa haven't gotten to the greatest of starts in their tour of India, with their 'A' side led by Temba Bavuma having gotten drubbed 4-1 at the hands of India 'A'. With the first of the three T20Is set to start in nine days time in Dharamsala, skipper Quinton de Kock has revealed that his side is prepared for the worst. However, the 26-year-old is still hopeful of getting good wickets in the T20Is, citing the wickets prepared in the IPL as the example.
"From our side what we are going to do is to make sure that we prepare for the worst. To be honest I don't know what we are going to get. In T20s I don't think it will spin that much because in the IPL they prepare pretty good wickets," De Kock was quoted as saying by news18.
However, the T20I skipper did admit that it might turn out to be a completely different story in the Test matches.
"But Test matches are a different story and it could end up turning on day one. It is more of a mental thing and not being caught up too much on whether it is spinning or not that is what it boils down to," he said.
The last tour of India ended as a disaster for the Proteas, as they ended up losing 3-0. The pitches, especially in Nagpur and Mohali, turned out to be minefields which spun from Day 1, and de Kock has now revealed that his side will be prepared this time around should the pitches be of the same nature as the ones in 2015. De Kock was also hopeful of his side putting out a better showing in case of them coming up against rank turners in the Tests.
"The last time we were there guys didn't really expect those type of surfaces but this time around we will have a little bit of head start about that" De Kock said.
"We will keep our eyes open and make sure that we are a little bit better than last time. I am not sure if they are going to prepare similar or better wickets than the last time we were there," he added.
The first of the three T20Is will commence on September 15 in Dharamsala, while the three-match Test series will kick off in Vizag on October 2.
