I just love MS Dhoni, reveals Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant has tried to downplay the comparisons of him with former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni stating he has huge admiration for him but is concentrating on bettering his game each passing day. He went on to discuss the Caribbean tour and the upcoming series against South Africa.
With Mahendra Singh Dhoni on a two-month hiatus from cricket to serve the territorial army, Rishabh Pant has become the regular wicket-keeper for team India across all the three formats. However, with the former in the twilight of his career and talks surrounding the 38-year-old’s retirement, Pant might just have already made his place in the team permanent.
The question that now remains is whether the 21-year-old is good enough to fit the veteran’s boots who led India to all ICC trophies possible under his reign. However, the thought doesn’t matter Pant much for he stated he is more concerned with becoming a better player every day.
"I just love him. I am focusing on my cricket and taking one match at a time. I am trying to improve everyday," Pant said at an event in Kolkata when asked about Dhoni, reported TOI.
He failed to perform at the level he would’ve wanted to in the recently concluded tour of the West Indies, even though india managed to win all the games that were completed during their stay there. Pant did score a vital half-century in the T20 series to guide the team to an impressive win.
"The team played really well (in the West Indies). I am looking forward to improve myself and helping team India to win more matches," he added.
His next assignment will be against the Proteas who are visiting the subcontinent for three T20Is and as many ODIs, with the first T20 scheduled to take place on Sunday in Dharamsala.
"We have practiced really well and mindset is good. We will look to do well. Our planning is going well. We will have home advantage but they are a good side," Pant signed off.
