Ranji Trophy 2020-21 | Chandrakant Pandit named Madhya Pradesh coach
Domestic cricket’s most successful coach Chandrakant Pandit has been named the head coach of the Madhya Pradesh team for the upcoming season. Madhya Pradesh finished seventh last season, while Pandit led the Vidarbha side to successive Ranji Trophy triumphs in 2017-18 and 2018-19.
A year after he coached Vidarbha to a second-successive Ranji Trophy title — their only two titles, Pandit has decided to move to MP in the same capacity. In three seasons with Vidarbha, Pandit led the side to back-to-back Irani Cup wins besides the Ranji titles.
The Nagpur-based MP side, on the other hand, finished seventh last season. The season prior, MP failed to reach the knockouts — they finished 16th — and was previously coached by Harvinder Singh Sodhi, Devendra Bundela, and Abbas Ali simultaneously.
“Vidarbha played very well. I’ve passed on whatever I could to them, and hopefully, the lessons will stay with them. Coaching MP will be a different challenge,” Pandit said, reported TOI.
To his credit, Pandit has also coached the likes of Mumbai, Maharashtra, and Kerala in the past. The 58-year-old, who adds to the growing storyline that experienced coaches weaving success stories like Arun Lal or Karsan Ghavri, has also captained and coached MP in the past.
