The tears of success are always filled with joy and memories worth remembering. Sam Konstas maiden call–up to the National cricket team of Australia sent down some emotional reactions from his parents as the youngster revealed during an on-field interview of the Sydney Derby on Saturday.

Konstas, 19, was summoned for the last couple of Test series against India in the ensuing Border Gavaskar Trophy. He replaced Nathan McSweeney who failed to score a single fifty in three Tests played so far. Following his maiden call-up to the Test squad, he revealed the parents' reaction to his national selection during the week’s Sydney Derby at the Sydney Showground Stadium.

“Called my parents straight away ... Mum was in tears so I was telling her not to cry. Dad was super proud. It’s been an amazing journey. All the ups and down – very grateful for their sacrifices. They’ve been great support to me. Nathan McSweeney is a very good player in all three formats – he actually congratulated me this morning so we’re very close mates,” Konstas expressed.

The prodigy was making all the right noise ahead of the series but his failure in the exhibition games against India A led to McSweeney’s selection. However, the latter’s downfall in national colours lead to his selection for the Boxing Day and New Year’s Test following an impressive BBL start with the Thunder.
