Despite the introduction of technology in cricket over a decade ago, to this day, it has always been accepted with a grain of salt. In the Boxing Day Test, third umpire Sharfuddoula decided to ignore Sniko, that showed no spike, and went by video evidence that showed deflection off the bat.

India found themselves in trouble in the final session on Day 5 as they lost wickets in a bunch just after Tea. The only solace was the fact that Jaiswal was still at the crease looking in good knick. However, a moment of madness by the Indian opener opened a can of worms, not just for India but also the technology supporting umpires in the game.

On the fifth ball of the 71st over, Pat Cummins dropped the ball short again, enticing Jaiswal to go for the pull. The Indian star fell for the trap and attempted a big hit only for the ball to end up in the hands of Alex Carey behind the stumps. However, the umpire looked unmoved but Cummins decided it was worthy of a look by the TV umpire. Here is where the controversy arose. While Sharfuddoula did not see a spike of RTS (Real Time Snicko), videos showed a clear deviation off the bat. The third umpire decided to trust the videos over RTS and declared the Indian star out. 

"That was one of the glance-shots where there isn’t any noise so Snicko shows nothing only ambient noise. I checked with the audio director and he said there was no noise either. Probably only Hot Spot could have resolved that one," Warren Brennan, whose company BBG Sports operates Snicko explained, reported Code Cricket. 

Twitter and the MCG crowd were not too pleased with the decision and were quick to shout “Cheater”.
