When the team is in a bit of trouble, one brilliant shot from a well-set batter can lift the spirits of the crowd and inject motivation into the side. KL Rahul did just that for India on the first day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he beautifully drove a delivery from Pat Cummins for a four.

‌Australia were in the driver's seat on the first day in Perth, with Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood showcasing their class from the outset. The pace and bounce of the pitch led to the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal in the third over, and the woes continued as Devdutt Padikkal was sent packing in the 11th over, leaving India at 14/2. With Virat Kohli and KL Rahul at the crease, India hoped for a recovery, and Rahul provided a moment of joy for the Indian fans with a beautifully timed drive.

On the last ball of the 16th over, Pat Cummins bowled a loose half-volley outside off stump. Rahul, judging the line perfectly, bent slightly and struck the ball with great timing, sending it racing to the cover boundary despite the slow outfield. The ball thereafter raced towards the boundary as the fielders were unable to grab it. After getting a fist pump from Kohli,Rahul walked back in with confidence as he played the shot, leaving Cummins smiling, while Twitter exploded with praise for Rahul’s brilliance.
