From an unknown phenom to being the fascination of every young cricket fan within six months, Mayank Yadav's ascension has been incredible, even if hard to fathom. However, the pacer proved he belongs on the big stage with the perfect start to his international journey, in Gwalior on Sunday.

Bangladesh proved to be no match for the depth of bowling quality in the Indian ranks in the opening T20I as the Tigers were bundled out for a paltry 127. Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakravarthy proved to be the pick of the bowlers with three scalps each but all eyes in the encounter were fixated on a certain right-arm pacer Mayank Yadav. The 22-year-old shot to the limelight earlier this year with a couple of scintillating performances in the IPL for Lucknow Super Giants, a stint that saw him bowl the 10 fastest deliveries in the tournament, and thus earned him a call-up to the national squad as soon as he returned from injury. However, questions persisted over the selection, given the express quick had last played a professional cricket game on April 30, but Mayank shut down all his critics in style with a dream start to his career.

Mayank was handed the ball by Suryakumar Yadav for the final over of the powerpla, on the back of a 15-run Varun Chakravarthy over, with Towhid Hridoy on strike. The quick;'s first effort clocked at 142ks and was left alone before a hint of swing at 146ks was met with a constrained drive for nothing. Clearly struggling to contend with the speed, Towhid tried backing away on the third ball but Mayank slyly pushed his length wide to tally another dot. With an edge over his counterpart established, Mayank returned to his traditional good length for two straight deliveries, each of which were guided towards backward point inside the ring. The pacer only slightly faltered on the final ball with afull delivery on the toes but the pressure built over previous five deliveries allowed him to escape safely and begin his career with a sensational maiden.

The youngster eventually ended with figures of 1/21 in his four overs, and earned many plaudits from Twitterati for his performance.
