Reports | Surgery could rule Cameron Green out of Border Gavaskar Trophy

‌Cameron Green was part of the Australian white-ball squads in England where he played two T20Is and as many ODIs before complaining of back soreness ahead of the fourth ODI at Lord's. The all-rounder was duly taken for scans and subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the tour to allow him to return Down Under for further treatment. Initially, Green was understood to be available as a specialist batter for the marquee five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy Test series against India beginning November 22 but reports have now emerged that surgery might be required to mitigate the issue.

Green has had a history with stres sfractures, having sustained four of them in his domestic career but none since he made his international debut in 2019. The Western Australian had recently been promoted to number in the Test liineup following Steve Smith's move to the top of the order and after a couple of early setbacks, Green proved his mettle with a match-winning unbeaten 174* in Wellington against New Zealand when the team was in the doldrums.

However, the latest injury could mean a return to Smith at his most prolific spot, while one of Sheffield Shield performers amongst the likes of Cameron Bancroft, Marcus Harris, and Matt Renshaw is afforded the opportunity to open the batting for Australia.
