Every batter dreams of a stellar debut, hoping to make a significant impact in their first match. However, in the first Test between Bangladesh and South Africa, Matthew Breetzke’s debut did not go as planned as he fell for a duck, dismissed by Taijul Islam’s straightforward delivery.

‌Bangladesh struggled with the bat in their first innings, bundled out for just 106 runs. The Proteas' bowling attack, led by Wiaan Mulder, Kagiso Rabada, and Keshav Maharaj, each taking three wickets, effectively restricted the Bangladesh side. In response, South Africa also got off to a rocky start, losing Aiden Markram in the first over. However, Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs built a 41-run partnership, bringing the score to 42/1 after 11 overs. Stubbs’ dismissal brought David Bedingham to the crease, but he too failed to make an impact. The Proteas’ woes continued when de Zorzi was dismissed, followed by Matthew Breetzke, who fell to a straightforward delivery from Taijul Islam.

On the last ball of the 28th over, Taijul delivered an arm-ball on a length outside off stump. Expecting it to turn, Breetzke chose to let it go, but the ball came back sharply with the angle and hit the off stump. A bewildered Breetzke couldn't believe what had just happened as the ball crashed into the stumps, leaving him to walk back for a duck on his debut. The Bangladesh team celebrated as Taijul reached a milestone of 200 Test wickets. Meanwhile, the Twitterverse quickly picked up on Breetzke’s unfortunate luck, discussing his misfortune in the match.

What on debut?
