Young Indian talent Musheer Khan has been ruled out for an extended period of time from cricket after being involved in a car accident in Lucknow. The batter was enroute to the state capital to join Mumbai's squad for the Irani Cup when the incident occurred and is slated to be under BCCI's care.

‌Mumbai's top-order batter Musheer Khan was involved in a car accident along with his father, on the outskirts of Lucknow on Friday.

The 19-year-old was travelling from his hometown Azamgarh in a Toyota Fortuner when the car collided with a road divider and toppled, as per ESPN Cricinfo. Musheer was immediately taken to the hospital for assessment and the extent of his injuries is yet to be confirmed. As soon as it is practical, he will be flown to a private hospital in Mumbai under BCCI's oversight and placed under the watch of the National Cricket Academy's medical team.

The batter was supposed to play for Mumbai against the Rest of India at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in the Irani Cup beginning October 1. His official replacement in the squad, captained by Ajinkya Rahane, is yet to be announced.

Musheer rose to prominence in the U-19 World Cup earlier this year where he played a crucial role in India's run to the final and was included in the official team of the tournament. He further cemented his stature last domestic season with a string of strong performances for Mumbai in the knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy, including a double century in the quarter-final and a match-winning ton versus Vidarbha in the summit clash. The tempered batter lept his good run going with a marathon 181 in the Duleep Trophy opener, taking his first-class average to 51.14 after nine games.
