Watch, Ashes | Travis Head celebrates fourth Test ton in hometown Adelaide with cheeky kiss
Cricket has never been short of entertainers, and Travis Head is certainly on track to be a Hall of Famer with his shenanigans on and off the field. The Aussie talisman celebrated another Ashes ton at the Adelaide Oval with an uncharacteristic celebration, and a typical press conference to follow.
Australia's domination in the ongoing Ashes continued in the southern part of the country on Monday as they ended Day 3 of the third Test 356 runs ahead with six wickets still to spare in the third innings. Travis Head and Alex Carey remained unbeaten at the close of play on 142 and 58 respectively, the two men stitching together a partnership of 122 runs to steer their team past murky waters at 149/4. Both playing at their homegrounds, Carey registered his maiden hundred at the venue in the first innings before his peer added his fourth at the venue, moving to third on the list behind only Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting. There were some sketchy moments for Head, including a drop at 99, and the veteran made sure to drill the misery home for the English with a resounding celebration.
On the second ball of the 52nd over, Head skipped down the track to Joe Root and pummelled the ball to long-off to bring up his 11th Test ton and a second in the series. With a wide grin plastered over his face, the 31-year-old shared a warm embrace with Carey before hurriedly taking off his helmet and gloves and kneeling to the ground to the give the pitch a cheeky little peck. Head then embraced the riveting applause echoing around the arena, raising his bat to the rousing ovation. When asked whether he had any grass in his moustache in the post-play press conference, Head joked he had a little in the mouth before explaining he was expecting a big reaction in the dressing room and acted the bit to mockingly do them justice. The talisman then added the Adelaide Oval pitch had taken good care of him in recent years, allowing him to score four tons when he had never even expected one, before admitting it may be his last opportunity to go big in Adelaide.
Head ended the day unbeaten on 142, taking Australia's lead past 350.
Celebration!
"Any grass in the moustache?" 😂
