Women's cricket has received a massive boost in the Indian cricket circuit. Following the win in the Women's World Cup, fans have started to give more recognition to the players. This has also resulted in the BCCI making a massive change to the match fees for domestic players.
History will remember 2025 as the year of the revolution of India Women's cricket team. Hosting the Women's World Cup, the team had to make sure that they came out at the top of the same. And fortunately, they were able to do it for the very first time, defeating South Africa in the finals to be the World champions.
This also became the time when fans started to give more and more recognition to Women's cricket. The BCCI has already been making moves to allow more players to show up in the domestic circuit. And to improve the same, they have made yet another change, which turned out to be possible due to the win in the Women's World Cup.
1. BCCI Increases Pay for Women's Domestic
It was correctly said that winning the Women's World Cup will allow the team to get a massive boost. This is also what happened to the men's team after they had won the World Cup for the very first time in 1983. And now, the BCCI has taken another step to allow more players to showcase their talent in the domestic circuit.
A meeting took place, including the top BCCI members at Mumbai. Taking place on Monday, an announcement of the same has also been made. The match fees of the domestic players in Women's cricket has now been increased to a great extent. Players who featured in the playing XI were earlier paid 20,000 rupees per match.
But that has now been increased to 50,000 rupees per match, giving a 2.5 times increase to the players. It should be noted that the hike in salary is only applicable to the seniors' competition. Players who will be present in the reserves of the team will be paid 25,000 rupees per match, which is half of what the playing XI will be paid.
When it comes to the age group level, the BCCI has also made changes to the match fees of the same. Players who will be participating in the playing XI of the match will be able to receive 25,000 per day. And for the reserve players, it is just half, at 12,500 rupees per day. Fans should also note that the first playing XI will only be paid the match fees, which has been decided for the same.
Before this announcement, the age group level players were paid 10,000 rupees per day, and reserves got 5,000 rupees per day. This also meant that 2 lakh rupees were spent on the match fees for a player if they played all games including the finals. And this figure has now been increased to a whopping total of 5 lakh rupees.
This change by the BCCI also came following the request of several state coaches. India has also been able to do well in the Under-19 World Cup, which pushes the BCCI to some extent to make changes in the match fees. And winning the Women's World Cup allowed the management to finally make the much-needed changes.
2. Continuation of Women's Cricket Upliftment
The BCCI has been constantly making changes to the Women's cricket scenario. And these changes have been going on even before the Indian team had won the Women's World Cup. It all started back in 2022, when the BCCI announced that the Women's team will be paid equal to the Men's team in the international games.
Later, they had also introduced the Women's Premier League, which is similar to the Indian Premier League. This has allowed several young players to get a chance to show their worth to the selectors. It has also helped various players to make their debut for the India Women's team over the last few years.
3. Historic World Cup Win
India hosted the Women's World Cup 2025, with fans having huge expectations with the Indian team. The last time India hosted an ICC tournament it was the Men's World Cup, where India ended up losing the finals against Australia. But the Women's team made sure that there is no stone was left unturned.
They were able to just make it to the semi-final stages of the tournament, finishing the league stages at 4th. Following this, they defeated Australia in the semi-final, with Jemimah Rodriguez playing a match-winning knock. Later in the finals, Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma played important knocks for the team to win its first-ever Women's World Cup.
