Amelia Kerr adds ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year award in rich trophy cabinet
New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr won the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year for her incredible all-round performance in the calendar year 2024. Following this, she bagged the Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy, the only individual to win the prestigious award from the land of White Ferns.
Kerr was pivotal in helping the Kiwis win their maiden title in the 2024 T20 World Cup. She was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 15 scalps at a bowling average of 7.33. She was also more than handy with the bat in the middle order for New Zealand. Moreover, her all-round skills in the grand finale decimated the Proteas unit as New Zealand won their inaugural ICC title in Women’s competitions. She scored 43 and picked up three wickets in the final. This also helped her earn the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards.
"It's a huge honour to win the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year," Kerr said. "I guess for me individual awards aren't something you think about much, but this is an extremely special one.
"It's nice to be able to contribute for New Zealand, I guess that's all any cricketer wants is to work hard and put out performances for their teammates. There are so many people that have helped me achieve what I have, and I'm very grateful for the support network I have around me."
Kerr was sensational in the 2024 calendar year, mustering 387 runs and bagging 29 scalps at a bowling average of 15.55.
Her grand performances with the willow and the sphere earned her a name in ICC’s Women’s T20I Team of the Year.
