ENG-W vs IND-W | Twitterati laud’s England Women after dominant win at Lords

‌India Women were sent into bat in the second ODI game by England Women, which was shortened to 29 overs due to rain. The visitors struggled to score runs as the England bowlers kept the batters quiet and continued to take wickets. It all started with an amazing inswinging yorker by Em Arlott to dismiss Pratika Rawal. The Women in Blue only managed to score 25 runs for the loss of just one wicket in the first six overs. The struggles did not end for them despite a few dropped catches and errors by the hosts. The only batters who looked threatening in the middle were Smriti Mandhana (42 off 51) and Deepti Sharma (30* off 34). While Em Arlott did a commendable job at the start and at the death to restrict the total, it was Sophie Ecclestone who was the pick of the bowlers with a three-wicket haul, which included two sharp caught and bowled chances to dismiss Harleen Deol and Jemimah Rodrigues. Though India Women managed to play out their full 29 overs, they still ended their innings on a below-par score of 143/8.

Unlike the visitors, England Women started their innings well with the openers Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones making sure that they stayed within the required rate and ending the powerplay with 37 runs without losing a wicket. The Indian bowlers were under pressure as the pair continued to score runs and put on 54 runs for the first wicket before Beaumont was dismissed LBW by Sneh Rana for a well-made 34 runs off 35 deliveries. The hosts looked comfortable at the crease even after the minor blip, as Jones, along with England skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt, continued the run-flow. While the Three Lionesses continued to dominate, there was a bit of sigh of relief for the visitors as the rain gods interrupted the field of play once again with the score at 102/1 in 18.4 overs. However, the game was back on with the revised target being 115 of 24 overs with England needing just  13 off 32 deliveries. Though Indian pacer Kranti Goud did manage to take the wickets of Sciver-Brunt, it was too little and too late as Jones and Sophia Dunkley made sure that they chased down the total easily and won the game by eight wickets to level the series 1-1.
