A section of the operations involved in a cricket contest that often goes unnoticed is the groundstaff that do the hard work to prepare the field. They were in huge demand during the rain-interrupted Afghanistan versus Australia clash before embarrassment peaked during the cleaning process.

Winning the toss and batting first, Afghanistan piled up 273 runs on the back of Sediqullah Atal’s 85 and Azmatullah Omarzai’s unbridled 67. In response, a couple of missed catches allowed Travis Head to unsettle the opposition pacers and steer Australia to 109/1 in 12.5 overs before the rain had the final say.

Thirty minutes of rain, coupled with mismanagement from the hosts, led to the abandonment of the crucial encounter as the points were shared, and Australia made it to the semis. However, a funny incident that sparked the cricket enthusiasts is that of a groundsman who tripped midway through the cleaning process. He was mopping the water from the field with a few peers before slipping and smacking the ground. The video surfaced through social media, and the Twitterverse found it utterly funny.
