AUS W vs PAK W | Twitter impressed with Mooney’s time management as batter sprints to boundary during review
Batters are often seen waiting anxiously when a review has been taken, but Beth Mooney was refreshingly different during the World Cup match between Australia and Pakistan. The batter sprinted to the ropes to collect valuable input from the team management, while Kim Garth opted for a review.
After opting to bowl at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Pakistan had Australia in all sorts of trouble during their group game in the Women’s ODI World Cup. The Women in Green, led by the spin duo of Nashra Sandhu and Rameen Shamim, reduced the mighty Aussies to 76/7 inside 22 overs.
However, Beth Mooney held one end up, and all hopes of a respectable total lay on her shoulders. But Sandhu trapped new batter Kim Garth in front of the wicket for the eighth scalp, with the umpire having no hesitation in raising her fingers.
But Garth looked confident as she immediately signalled for a review and replays vindicating her confidence. The batter got an inside edge before the ball went on to crash into her back pad, and the on-field umpire had to reverse her original decision.
But Mooney caught the eyes of the cricketing world as she sprinted the length of the field towards the boundary rope when the review procedures were going on. She got some valuable input from the team management, communicated through one of the substitute players at the boundary line.
She sprinted back in the nick of time as the third umpire concluded her communication for a successful Australian review. Twitter was impressed with Mooney's time management skills, during a rare sight, even as she continued Australia’s fight for a decent total.
