‌Pakistan captain Fatima Sana opted to field against England in the Women’s ODI World Cup at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The Women in Green, who are yet to open their points tally in the tournament, started positively as the pace bowling duo of Fatima Sana and Diana Baig reduced England to 39/4 inside seven overs.

The Pakistan skipper accounted for the in-form pair of Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight, along with wicketkeeper-batter Amy Jones, while Baig castled Tammy Beaumont with a beauty. The introduction of spin further worsened the batting side’s woes as they slipped to 57/6 with left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal picking up two wickets.

Pakistan decided to push home the advantage as Fatima introduced off-spinner Rameen Shamim in the 18th over. The move almost worked wonders, with Alice Capsey sweeping a full toss first up from Shamim straight down the throat of Muneeba Ali, who was stationed square leg.

The bespectacled Muneeba almost caught it with a reverse cup before the ball slipped out of her hands. Meanwhile, Shamim started celebrating with her hands up in the air and her face wearing a happy smile.

But all that turned into agony in a matter of moments as she saw the Kookaburra go to ground. The off-spinner, however, kept her cool as she consoled Muneeba, who was in a state of shock.
