Sanju Samson has been a key batsman for Chennai Super Kings and Indian team as well. With his performances, the teams have received a lot of benefits, as CSK also won two games with him as the POTM. But, is Sanju Samson really able to convert his starts often enough?

Over the last two years, Sanju Samson has positioned himself as one of the most aggressive batsmen in the T20 format. Whether he plays for the Indian team or for CSK in the IPL, he focuses on giving a good start to the team. In the majority of the cases, he even succeeds in doing the same.

But there has been one major challenge which Samson has faced over the last few months, and even continues to face in IPL 2026. And it comes in converting his starts into big scores. While he is able to give a strong start to his team, he has not been able to convert them into big scores often enough.

Sanju Samson in IPL 2026:

  • Innings: 8
  • Not Out: 2
  • Runs: 304
  • Average: 50.66
  • Strike Rate: 169.83
  • 100s: 2
  • 50s: 0

Note: The stats are till 29 April, 2026.

While Sanju Samson has scored two centuries for Chennai Super Kings, he has not even scored 100 runs combined for the team in the remaining six games.

Our Take

Yes, Sanju Samson is able to get some good starts in the shortest format of the game. But he has not been able to convert those starts to big scores on frequent occasions. Even in the IPL 2026 season, he has managed to convert just two starts in eight games. But, it should be noted that he is able to convert the starts when his team needs it the most, like he did for the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2026.

Mumbai Indians have not been able to do well in the IPL 2026 season. With a loss against SRH, the team still stands with 2 wins in 8 games. At the same time, Jasprit Bumrah has struggled to take wickets for the team in this season, which might be one of the key reasons behind its downfall.
