SCO vs ITA | Twitter unimpressed as Davidson gets under Ben Manenti’s skin with provocative celebration
Bowlers often get pumped up whenever they get a wicket after getting hit, and Oliver Davidson was no different in the T20 World Cup game against Italy. The Scotland spinner dismissed Ben Manenti after getting hit for a six and a four to give him a fiery send-off that seemed to provoke the batter.
Scotland had an excellent start after being put into bat by Italy in their T20 World Cup 2026 Group C encounter in Kolkata on Monday. Opener George Munsey led their batting with a 54-ball 84, which included 13 fours and two sixes, as the side posted 207/4, the highest by any associate nation in a T20 World Cup match, at Eden Gardens.
In return, Italy did not have an ideal start, losing a wicket in the very first ball after the restart before ending the powerplay at 54/3. However, the Manenti brothers, Harry and Ben, steadied the ship with a 73-run stand for the fourth wicket. Though Harry left, Ben continued to bring in the big hits as he solely carried Italy’s hopes forward.
The all-rounder smashed Oliver Davidson for a straight six in the 14th over to bring up his half-century before a false shot proved his undoing. The batter, while trying to go inside out off a tossed-up delivery from the left-arm spinner, ended up reaching for the shot. As a result, he could only scoop it to the fielder at long-off for a regulation catch.
After getting hit for a six and a four, the spinner was finally rewarded, and he did not hide his disappointment, giving a fiery send-off to Manenti. He gestured something like a snake dance with his hands as Manenti walked out of the pitch. That did not impress the batter as he turned back to utter a few words before continuing his walk back.
Twitter was pumped up as Davidson tilted the game heavily in favour of Scotland with the all-important wicket of Manenti.
