Associate nations are always eager to punch above their weight whenever they get a chance, and Yuvraj Samra showed exactly that in the T20 World Cup game against New Zealand. The 19-year-old Canadian opener produced a knock for the ages as he became the youngest centurion in the history of T20Is.

‌New Zealand hit a roadblock in Yuvraj Samra as they stepped out to seal their Super Eight spot in their last group game against Canada in the T20 World Cup in Chennai. After skipper Dilpreet Bajwa opted to bat at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday, the Canada opener shocked the Kiwis with his stunning display.

After a cautious start, which saw him make 20 off his first 19 balls, the southpaw cut loose with three boundaries and a six off James Neesham in the last over of powerplay. After getting to his fifty in 36 balls, the 19-year-old shifted gears in amazing fashion, smashing the next 52 runs in just 22 balls.

He got to his maiden century in T20Is in style, with a boundary behind the wicket, before sprinting to the non-striker’s end in jubilation. The teenager then removed his helmet and waved towards his teammates, who were up on their feet to celebrate the momentous occasion.

The batter’s 65-ball 110, which included six sixes and 11 fours, and his century partnership with captain Bajwa took Canada to a formidable 173/4. His knock, the second hundred in this T20 World Cup, after Pathum Nissanka’s knock against Australia, also made him the youngest centurion in T20Is.

Take a bow, Yuvraj!
