SA20 | Twitter reacts to Miller clothesline and brawling Rickelton as cricket gives way to WWE

Of all the mainstream popular sports as of present, the one where you'd least expect to encounter a WWEesque brawl is cricket given it is a non-contact start. Yet, that is exactly what panned out in the SA20 on Friday night when David Miller decided he needed to teach Ryan Rickelton a lesson.

Paarl Royals edged a thriller at Boland Park in the SA20 by one run to keep MI Cape Town winless from the first four games of the season. An unbeaten 98 from opener Lhuan-dre Pretorius powered the hosts to 181/3 in their 20 overs before a frequent fal of wickets restricted their rivals to one run short in a suspenseful last ball finish. However, the intensity of the clash and stakes involved did not keep players from enjoying their time out in the middle, epitomised by some tier-A banter between David Miller and Ryan Rickelton early in the second innings.

Facing Bjorn Fortuin, Rickelton pushed a full delivery to mid-off on the third ball of the third over and sprinted for a quick single. Miller came rushing in to collect the ball and ventured a hopeful underarm throw towards the stumps, only to find Rickelton in his line of fire. The keeper-batter hopped around to dodge the Kookaburra and lost grip of his bat in the process, but kept running still towards Miller while proffering a few words at the veteran. It was all the motivation Miller needed to intercept Rickelton with a clothesline and send him hurtling to the deck after a brief struggle, before the MI opener flipped the script by brawling around and getting on top of Miller. The latter eventually managed to shove Rickelton away and managed a cheeky shouldr barge as he got back to his feet, the duo smirking like schoolboys in a playground. All this while Fortuin watched wideeyed in the background, unable to make sensee of what was offering, and ended up quietly handing back Rickelton his bat to add another layer of comedy to the hilarious incident.

Twitterati could not have enough of it.
