Sarfaraz Khan is not backing down to make his comeback to the Indian cricket team. After being excluded from the team for months, he is repeatedly giving big knocks in the domestic games. Recently, he smashed 30 runs in an over in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

A player who was once a part of the Indian team, is giving his statements to the BCCI selectors yet again. And this time, it is not Mohammed Shami. It is the Test batsman, Sarfaraz Khan, who had a promising Test debut. Despite that, the home series against New Zealand came out to be his last, after which he has not been picked by the team.

But Sarfaraz doesn't seem to back down, and get his place back in the line-up. His dominant performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy has ensured that the selectors have their eyes on his performances. With Sarfaraz eager for a comeback, he is looking forward to leaving no stone unturned this time.

1. Sarfaraz Rises in VHT

The Vijay Hazare Trophy has not been about the Indian players dominating in the domestic games. It has also been about the players who have been ignored by the selectors over the last few months. And this list also includes Sarfaraz Khan, who played his last international match against New Zealand, back in 2024.

Sarfaraz Khan in VHT 2025/26:

  • Innings: 5
  • Not Out: 1
  • Runs: 303
  • Average: 75.75
  • Strike Rate: 190.56
  • 100s: 1
  • 50s: 2

But in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he has been dominant for Mumbai. In the six games he has played for Mumbai, Sarfaraz has stepped out to bat in five innings. And in these, he has been able to cross the 50 run mark in three innings for the team.

The big statement from the Indian batter came in the clash between Punjab and Mumbai. Punjab was batting first in this game and they ended up scoring 216 runs. In return, Mumbai was given a strong start, with the help of Sarfaraz Khan. He smashed 62 runs off just 20 balls, which also includes an over when he smashed 30 runs against Abhishek Sharma.

With this knock, it is clear that Sarfaraz Khan is now keen to get his place back in the Indian team. He is also set to feature in the Indian Premier League, as he is now a part of Chennai Super Kings. Sarfaraz was bought by the team for 75 Lakh rupees, and it could be the best moment for him to script a momentous comeback.

2. Weight Critics and Sarfaraz’s Reply

When Sarfaraz Khan made his debut for the Indian cricket team, he came as a replacement for Shreyas Iyer. It happened in the series against England, as Sarfaraz made his debut look promising. But there was one common critique which he received, which was related to his weight. This even raised some questions on his future selection to the team.

Reports suggest that Sarfaraz Khan had lost 17 kgs in weight within two months. He did this from May to June 2025, shifting his diet completely. The reports even said that he gave up on all the traditional foods, including biryani, which is one of his favourite food items.

It was expected that he would make his comeback to the Indian team after this weight loss. But that didn't happen. Eventually, Sarfaraz Khan went on to miss the series against the West Indies and South Africa, despite giving his best to make a comeback. But this didn't break him down, he is still giving his best to make a comeback in the Indian jersey.

3. Promising Test Career Put to Halt

For Sarfaraz Khan, it can be said that he had a promising Test career which was put to a halt. He came in as a replacement for Shreyas Iyer, and scored a half-century in his debut game. Against bowlers such as James Anderson and Ben Stokes, Sarfaraz played as if he was playing in his own backyard.

Sarfaraz Khan in Tests:

  • Innings: 11
  • Not Out: 1
  • Runs: 371
  • Average: 37.10
  • Strike Rate: 74.94
  • 100s: 1
  • 50s: 3

Even in the second innings of his debut game, he went on to score 68 runs off 72 balls, as India declared their innings. His start was promising, but it fell down a bit in the series against New Zealand. Still in the tough conditions of Chinnaswamy Stadium, Sarfaraz was able to bring up 150 runs in his knock.
