Kamalini was subject to harsh criticisms after her mediocre display with the gloves in the first game of the WPL, but the young wicketkeeper made amends with a stunning effort against the Delhi Capitals. The Mumbai Indians keeper pulled off a diving one-handed beauty to dismiss Jemimah Rodrigues.

‌Mumbai Indians put on a formidable 195/4 after being put in by Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League in Navi Mumbai. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur smashed eight fours and three sixes to remain unbeaten on 74 off 42 balls, while Nat Sciver-Brunt had 13 fours in her 46-ball 70 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy on Saturday.

With a huge target ahead of them, the Delhi Capitals crumbled under pressure to find themselves at 33/3 inside five overs. While Sciver-Brunt dismissed Lizelle Lee in her second over, Nicola Carey castled Shafali Verma and Laura Wolvaardt in the space of a ball in identical fashion in the next over.

But Delhi’s woes did not end there, with Kamalini’s stunning effort ending captain Jemimah Rodrigues’ stay in the middle off Shabnim Ismail. With the former South Africa pacer bowling a 114.5 kmph delivery around short of a length outside off stump, the Capitals’ skipper rocked back to play the cut.

But the ball hurried to her just as she brought the bat down and ended up playing it to the first slip. What looked like a certain boundary was not to be, courtesy of Kamalini’s stunning reflexes and excellent hand-eye coordination.

The young MI wicketkeeper quickly dived to her right, pouching the ball in her right glove before completing the dive. The superlative effort even surprised Ismail, who could not believe that Kamalini had actually taken it.

The 17-year-old jumped up and threw the ball in the air in wild celebrations as her teammates rushed to acknowledge her effort. Twitter was in awe of her unbelievable take as she made amends to her sloppy work behind the stumps in the first game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Friday.
