Running between wickets can often be comical as Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner showed in the first T20I against India at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur on Wednesday. Mitchell was not impressed with New Zealand captain Santner’s running as he made his displeasure clear with an animated gesture.

‌Abhishek Sharma’s blistering half-century put India on the ascendancy in the first T20I against New Zealand in Nagpur on Wednesday. The opener smashed eight sixes and five fours to top score for the side with a 35-ball 84, powering the Men in Blue to 238/7 after being put in at the VCA Stadium. He was ably assisted with cameos from captain Suryakumar Yadav (32), Hardik Pandya (25), and Rinku Singh (44), with Jacob Duffy finishing with figures of 2/27 in four overs.

The Kiwis had a woeful start, losing opener Devon Conway without scoring, and Rachin Ravindra in the second over, with the score reading just one. However, Glenn Phillips (78) kept the visitors in the chase with a swashbuckling half-century, which included six sixes and four boundaries.

But after the set pair of Phillips and Mark Chapman departed, Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner tried to take the Kiwis deep, with the former trying to steal every possible run. With Abhishek Sharma, who came on for the injured Axar Patel to complete the 16th over, bowling a short of a length delivery, Mitchell pulled it straight back as the ball hit Abhishek before slowly making its way past him.

Mitchell was quick to run the first, but Santner took all his time to complete the run, leaving a hesitant Mitchell on the edge. But the Kiwi skipper recovered quickly to call for the second and completed it comfortably. But Mitchell was not impressed as he made his displeasure clear with an animated gesture.

Twitter was in splits as Mitchell put his histrionic skills to great use to summon Santner for his casualness.
