New India T20I Captain Shreyas Iyer Shares His First Thoughts
Shreyas Iyer was present in an event along with Sourav Ganguly and AB de Villiers. He talked about his new responsibility, as he has been appointed as the captain of the Indian team in the T20I format. Iyer reflected on his role and was honoured to receive the same.
Ever since Shreyas Iyer was announced as the captain of the Indian cricket team, fans didn't hear much from him. The former captain Suryakumar Yadav has already given his best wishes to the new skipper. But the fans were waiting to hear it out from the Sarpanch Saab himself.
And yesterday, Shreyas Iyer was present in an event along with other greats such as AB de Villiers and Sourav Ganguly. It was an interactive session, where a number of questions were asked to all of them, including Iyer. For the new Indian skipper, it was the right time to talk about his responsibilities as a captain.
Shreyas Iyer said, “I've got a new responsibility now, but I don't want to change my personality. I want to be the same person as I was before. I don't want to be someone else or stay under someone's shadow.”
Our Take
Shreyas Iyer has shown promise with his performances in the international and even the Indian Premier League. Leading three different franchises to IPL finals, and even winning the titles with one of them has been a challenging job for him. Now he would be eager to help the Indian team continue its dominance at the same level, where Suryakumar Yadav left it. The team has two major events coming up in the next few years, which includes the Olympics and T20 World Cup, and Iyer would be eager to lead them to victory in both of them.
