Rohit Sharma has received backing from an Indian legend for the 2027 World Cup. Irfan Pathan backs the Hitman to be in the Indian team for the big tournament once again. With the World Cup taking place in South Africa, his capabilities will prove to be vital for the Indian team.

Rohit Sharma has one main objective before he retires from international cricket. And that is to win the World Cup for the Indian team. He has achieved everything in his cricket career except the World Cup. In the previous edition, he came close to winning it as a captain but Australia was able to take the opportunity away from him.

More than two years has passed since the same, and now the Hitman has his eyes set for the World Cup 2027. This tournament will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Recently, Rohit was not able to do much well in the series against New Zealand, as he aims to build a comeback against Afghanistan.

With questions being raised on his spot in the ODI team, Irfan Pathan has backed the Hitman. Irfan said, “Rohit Sharma's biggest strength is his ability to handle short-pitched bowling. He has exceptional timing & gets into position early. In South Africa, where bowlers get both swing and extra bounce, Rohit is the ideal batter to punish anything short.”

Our Take

Rohit Sharma for the 2027 World Cup will be a massive boost for the Indian team. Even though he has struggled with his form lately, Rohit Sharma is a different beast when it comes to the ICC events. In the previous World Cup edition, he had the most successful World Cup campaign by a captain as a batter, as he gave strong start to the Indian team in every match.
