What Does the Rulebook Say About Vaibhav Sooryavanshis Controversy?
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was involved in a controversy in the match against Sri Lanka A. He even pushed one of the bowlers, before the Sri Lanka A skipper stepped in to calm things down. But, what possible actions could be taken against him in this case?
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, for the first time in his young career, finds himself in the middle of a controversy. He was involved in a controversy against the Sri Lanka A players yesterday, when India A lost the game in the Super Over. Following the match, some words were exchanged between Suryansh Shedge and the bowler.
The bowler, Kaguthas Mathulan, said something to Suryansh Shedge which provoked the Indian batsmen. While Shedge answered, Sooryavanshi decided to help his teammate. And in this process, he even pushed one of the players of Sri Lanka A, before the other players decided to step in and calm things down.
Now the situation will be seen by the ICC, as the match referee will present what exactly happened. According to the rulebooks, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi violated one rule under Article 2.12, which says, "inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person during an International Match.” For this, he may be handed one or two demerit points.
Our Take
The actions to be taken on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will be decided soon, but he won't be banned by the ICC for the same. Since this is the first time, he will be left with some demerit points and an action would only have been taken if things were way too serious. If he receives 4 demerit points within 24 months, he will be facing a suspension.
