Ishan Kishan’s heroics in the T20 World Cup 2026 have paid off for the star batsman. With the latest update in the ICC T20 cricket rankings, Kishan now stands at the 2nd spot. From making his return to the team against New Zealand to standing at 2nd in ICC rankings, he has scripted his own comeback.

Ishan Kishan's comeback story just keeps getting better and better. He gave some stellar performances for the Indian team following his comeback in the series against New Zealand. This eventually helped him to find a spot in the T20 World Cup playing XI, and this decision paid off to both the team and Kishan himself.

With three half-centuries in the tournament, he was able to do well with the bat. He finished as the team's second-highest run scorer, just behind Sanju Samson. Even in the final match against New Zealand, he went on to score another half-century for the team.

This eventually helped India to post a massive total and Ishan Kishan also gained ranks in the ICC rankings. With the latest update, he now stands just behind Abhishek Sharma with 871 points. The difference between Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma is now just 4 points. India's next T20I match will play a crucial role to decide which one of these two stays at the top.

Our Take

The comeback story of Ishan Kishan feels so unreal, and it is also the one that we wanted to happen. Following the 2023 World Cup, he was excluded from the BCCI Central Contract for not participating in domestic tournaments. But he didn't give up and went on to give his best in the domestic season 2025.

Leading Jharkhand to win the SMAT came as a turning point for him. He also scored a ton in the finals and eventually received a call-up for his return to the Indian team. While everyone is praising Sanju Samson for his match-winning knocks in crucial games, the role played by Ishan Kishan as the Pocket Dynamo was crucial for India throughout the tournament.
