Even after his retirement, Rohit Sharma still leads the T20I captaincy charts. Suryakumar Yadav had a successful T20 World Cup campaign but it was still not enough for him to level with the Hitman's captaincy. It will be intense to see whether Surya can break his record in the near future.

The last few years have been all about India's dominance in the T20I format. It was started by Rohit Sharma, who changed the mindset of the team and it is now being continued by Suryakumar Yadav. Under Suryakumar, India was able to win the Asia Cup 2025 and T20 World Cup 2026.

With just one loss in both of these tournaments, Suryakumar Yadav showed his prowess as a skipper. Still, it was not enough for him to level with the Hitman when it comes to the best winning percentage in T20Is as a captain. Rohit Sharma still leads the charts not only among the Indian captains, but among all captains in full member nations

Suryakumar Yadav has secured 40 wins in 52 matches, which puts his winning percentage at 76.92%. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma has led the Indian team to win 49 matches out of 62. This puts his winning percentage at 79.03, higher than Suryakumar Yadav. The only captain who has a better winning percentage than SKY other than Rohit is Sarfaraz Khan.

Our Take

Rohit Sharma's captaincy has played a major role in changing things for the Indian cricket team. From the semi-final loss against England in 2022 to winning consecutive T20 World Cups, India has established its dominance worldwide. Moreover, Rohit Sharma led India to win the T20 World Cup 2024 being undefeated throughout the tournament.

After his retirement, the captaincy and T20I team was entirely handed over to Suryakumar Yadav. He has done the job well to maintain India's dominance at the global stage. With players such as Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and more, the Indian team continues to shine in the shortest format of the game.
