It is a huge moment for Women's cricket, as the game is going through some massive changes. With the T20 leagues being promoted worldwide, each and every board wants its league to be the best. In order to do so, the ECB decided to bring an auction to the Women's Hundred for the very first time.

And eventually, the auction for Women's Hundred was successfully hosted on 11 March 2026. This historic event took place at Piccadilly Lights in London, and all teams participated in the same. It was a shift from the draft-based system to the auction system, similar to the one used in the IPL and WPL. Moreover, the salary pots of the teams were also increased.

Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney came out to be the big stars in the auction. They were able to bag £210,000 each in the auction. Along with that, Danielle Gibson broke records by becoming the highest bid English player in the auction, as she got sold to Sunrisers Leeds for £190,000.

Our Take

A shift from the draft system to auction has come out to be a huge move for both women's cricket and the Women's Hundred. Several women were also spotted at the team tables, making decisions regarding which player to buy or which one to skip. Moreover, Indian players also participated in the Women's Hundred Auction, and a few of them even found teams.

Deepti Sharma has been bought by Sunrisers Leeds for £27,500, and Richa Ghosh has also been secured at a price of £50,000 by Manchester Super Giants. Approximately £4 million was spent by all teams in this historic auction, which comes as a game-changer in women's cricket.
