Southern Super Stars start their Legends League 2026 campaign with an impressive 8 wicket victory. With its brilliant bowling performances, India Captains were restricted to a low total. Hamilton Masakadza finished the game quickly, taking the defending champions to the top.

The defending champions of Legends League Cricket, Southern Super Stars, had one of the finest starts of the tournament. Earlier the team had its first game scheduled against Konark Suryas Odisha, but it was abandoned. Yesterday, they finally played their first game of the campaign against the India Captains.

It was expected to be a balanced contest, but Southern Super Stars took it one-sided. India Captains were batting first but they had no answers to the bowlers of Southern Super Stars. Eventually, the team was bowled out for just 87 runs, with Ajit Chandila taking 4 wickets.

India Captains troubled the Southern Super Stars in the beginning of the chase, dismissing both openers for 0 and 2. But Hamilton Masakadza brought down his experience to chase down the total with more than half of the overs remaining. He scored 61 runs off 30 balls, as Southern Super Stars received an 8-wicket victory. The team has now ranked up to the top spot just after playing their first game.

Our Take

With a strong start, Southern Super Stars have established their momentum going forward in the tournament. Hamilton Masakadza played a crucial role for the team with the bat, while the bowling performances remained all-round, from the start till the end. This has also brought down several questions for India Captains.

Despite starting off the tournament well, the team finds itself at the last spot in the standings. Southern Super Stars look as a key contender for the current season, as their players continue to be at their best, like they were in the last season.
