Cricket fans will now be able to witness another T20 league in the coming months. New Zealand now plans to launch its own T20 league, based on franchise cricket. This league is expected to replace the Super Smash, which is a domestic tournament in New Zealand.

There are already a number of T20 leagues taking place all around the world. Australia has its own Big Bash League, England has Vitality Blast and The Hundred, and India has the Indian Premier League. Even Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka have their own T20 leagues which have grown the game a lot over the last few years.

Among all the full member nations, only New Zealand seems to be the one which didn't have its own franchise cricket league. The New Zealand Cricket had noticed the gap created in their cricket scenario due to the same, and started to work on it. The recent reports say that New Zealand Cricket is about to launch its first-ever T20 league based on franchise cricket.

The idea has been proposed with the name of NZ20 and it is expected to take place within the next few months. Along with that, this tournament is also set to replace Super Smash, the domestic T20 league which takes place in New Zealand.

Our Take

The idea proposed by New Zealand Cricket to launch its own franchise cricket comes as a big move. Over the last few years, several T20 leagues have emerged and it has drawn a significant amount of attention from the fans worldwide. This move will also help New Zealand Cricket to get more revenue.

Along with that, it will prepare their youngsters to a great extent, noting the fact that they will be able to play with overseas players. Even the Indian fans would wait to see whether any IPL-based team expands its availability to the NZ20, when the team bidding begins.
